News: TomTom Car Kit release slips to October

News Category: iPhone AccessoriesIn an update to its iPhone frequently asked questions page, TomTom has revealed that the release date for its iPhone Car Kit has slipped to October. Originally previewed at Apple’s 2009 Worldwide Developers Conference, the Car Kit is a combination mount, charger, speakerphone, and GPS booster, allowing it to boost the accuracy of the built-in GPS on the iPhone 3G and 3GS, and enabling iPod touch units to work with navigation software, such as TomTom’s own application. The updated page reads, “[t]he TomTom car kit availability was originally planned for this summer. But we have decided to take some extra weeks in order to deliver the highest quality on this innovative product. So, the car kit will become available this October.” The Kit recently appeared on the FCC’s website, indicating that the accessory has passed regulatory testing; pricing has yet to be announced.
